When choosing the right actuator for your application and industry, several variables need to be considered. For example, what materials does your industry need to move? How do these materials need to be moved and what is the specific environment for the movement?
There are four main types of power cylinders, mechanical cylinders, electric cylinders, hydraulic cylinders and pneumatic cylinders. These four types of power cylinders correspond to different application requirements and industry scenarios. Let us take a closer look.
Electric Actuator
Electric actuators can be flexibly designed and adjusted specifically for control options. This type of actuator is very compact and does not emit noise. It should be noted that the driving process of the electric cylinder is complicated, because its screw needs to be rotated and operated mechanically, which makes this equipment occupy a relatively large space. Because of their very strong controllability, electric cylinders can get extremely high accuracy during operation. In addition, it can be extended without restrictions without being restricted by travel. Electric cylinders have a higher upfront cost, but they are very affordable to operate. They do not pose a threat to the environment because there is no liquid leakage.
Hydraulic cylinder
A hydraulic cylinder is a very powerful device. If your industry needs to handle or transfer large tonnage materials, hydraulic cylinders are your ideal choice. Compared with cylinders of the same size, the power of hydraulic cylinders is 25 times that of them. The medium of hydraulic cylinders is fluid, so they can guarantee power for a long time without continuously applying pressure to them. It should be noted that the hydraulic system has more parts and components, so higher maintenance costs are required. They may leak under certain conditions, which is a fatal weakness for industries that require extremely high hygiene standards. The hydraulic system is very noisy, even if it is equipped with noise reduction equipment.
Pneumatic actuators
The medium inside the cylinder is compressed air, which can drive a lot of power. Many industries have already used air compressors, so the compressed air required by the cylinders will be easier to obtain. However, the efficiency of the air cannot be guaranteed at all times, and sometimes over-compressed air can cause the pneumatic actuator to be de-powered. . The air may also be contaminated by equipment lubricant, which increases the risk of damage to the inside of the cylinder. Nonetheless, compressed air is still the most versatile workhorse in pneumatic actuators, and is an ideal choice for all kinds of movements that require high torque, precise linear motion, and/or trouble-free retention. In addition, since pneumatic actuators do not have motors and do not use hazardous materials, they can easily meet mechanical safety requirements. So what factors need to be considered when choosing the right pneumatic cylinder? The initial cost input is the primary consideration. The cost of pneumatic cylinders is not high, and the initial investment cost will not surprise you. But if the pneumatic cylinder is damaged, all manufacturing processes need to be stopped during the repair process, so the benefit loss caused by the downtime cannot be measured.
Vilop produces a wide range of pneumatic actuators, which can be configured in many different ways to meet your specific application requirements. We can also customize and design a solution that perfectly suits your needs. Welcome to contact us.
