Both pneumatic cylinder and electric motor can provide power for the movement of equipment. These two solutions are the most common in industry.
Although stepping motor and electric servo are a high-performance solution, this solution requires high cost, including design cost and material cost. And in some complex working environments, this method is not applicable.
If the shape factor is appropriate, the pneumatic cylinder is a more suitable solution. Pneumatic cylinder not only has high working efficiency, but also has lower cost than motor. However, the piston inside the traditional pneumatic cylinder is connected with a connecting rod, which will move with the change of air pressure in the cylinder. Therefore, the traditional pneumatic cylinder is more suitable for full stroke application. Because the driving equipment of traditional pneumatic cylinder needs to be installed at the end, it often consumes more room space.
In addition to the traditional pneumatic cylinder, another solution is the rodless cylinder. The working principle of rodless cylinder is different from that of rodless cylinder, but their working principle is similar. There is also a piston inside the rodless air cylinder, but this piston is not connected with the connecting rod, but with an external bracket for the movement of the cylinder block. In this way, the structure of rodless cylinder is more compact than that of traditional rotary cylinder, so as to save more installation space.
Rodless Solutions
For sticky environment, rodless double acting cylinder is a good solution. For example, rodless cylinder is very suitable for glue station, because the glue head needs to pass through the flat paperboard, and the equipment must be installed in a narrow space. In this case, the pneumatic cylinder is the best choice to drive this movement. However, the traditional pneumatic cylinder requires a large installation space, so it will be separated from the machine to a large extent, resulting in some installation problems and even safety problems. If the rodless magnetic cylinder is used, it can be compactly installed on the equipment, thus reducing the complexity and cost of the equipment. Therefore, the application of rodless rotary cylinder in some narrow spaces has great advantages.
Solving Linear Motion Problems With Rodless Cylinders
The price of rodless guide cylinder is higher than that of traditional pneumatic cylinder, but its initial cost and maintenance cost are still much lower than that of electric motor. Generally, if the space for linear motion is very large, especially in the case of long stroke, the rodless telescopic cylinder can be used instead of the traditional pneumatic cylinder. The mechanism needs to be connected to the bracket necklace of the rodless cylinder, not to the connecting rod.

Because of this, designers can choose the most suitable one from many rodless cylinders. This can optimize the mechanical design and save more costs for customers.
